Our planet is endangered by the global warming. Dominative use of the fossil fuels such as coal, petrol and natural gas has caused serious climate changes around the globe affecting the populations worldwide. Due to the fact that in our country and around the world, most of the electricity is supplied from fossil fuels, global warming grows serious day by day. So as to protect our country and the globe from serious threats of the global warming, we should be sensitive in the way we make use of the energy sources. First stage through this effort is to prefer the materials requiring less use of energy. In industrial structures, %10-15 of the energy is consumed for lighting requirements of the plants. The importance of efficient use of the energy is more and more in the agenda each day by effort of some international associations. It is clear that today, regarding the environmental problems; international authorities are of the same opinion when the concern is the importance of energy efficiency. In this context, through the conversion performed at lighting market; there has been some objectives, limitations and prohibitions introduced.
Thanks to new technologies, power consumption of the lighting devices can be reduced greatly. For instance, advancements in the fluorescent lamps have provided development in solving some environmental problems. Especially the high luminous efficiency of T5 (T16 mm) fluorescent lamps and the compact fluorescent lamps and use of electronic ballasts instead of magnetic ballasts offers an energy saving of %20-25. By the way, one should know the fact that each electronic ballast is different from each other at the range guaranteed by their specifications.
